Reminder to first time voters

First time voters from across the Highlands are being reminded that they have until next 5pm on Tuesday (20 April) to register to vote in the 2010 General Election which will take place on Thursday 6 May.
One person keen to encourage everyone who has recently turned 18 to ensure they are eligible to vote is Highland Youth Convener Magnus Monahan. He said:
“I’ve always had a keen interest in politics but this is the first time I’ve been eligible to vote so I’m really looking forward to taking part. I would encourage all young people to make sure they’re registered and to go out and use their vote on the 6th May.”
You can check that are registered as an elector by telephoning 0800 393 783.
The last date to apply for a postal vote is also Tuesday 20 April so anyone wishing to vote by post should contact telephone this number too.
The UK Parliamentary elections will see 650 MPs elected into the House of Commons, 59 of which represent Scotland.
In the Highlands there are three parliamentary constituencies, covering a total of 171,587 voters. They are:
- Caithness Sutherland and Easter Ross (47,263 voters);
- Ross Skye and Lochaber (51,934)
- Inverness Nairn Badenoch and Strathspey (72,390).

Whatever you choose this site is about Highland Young people and connecting you with each other, the decision makers that effect you, the information you want and is ultimately a show case for the rest of the world when they visit the site to find out what its like to be young in the Highlands.
